FLCL Ultimate Edition Box Set review (Part 1)

Lookie what came in the mail today! I’ve never done a “show you my loot” post, but here’s a good first try. (Pardon the crappy photography)

I’m going to attack this review from a little different perspective. This part will focus on the packaging and won’t go too in depth into the actual content, Part 2 will focus on the extras, and Part 3 the actual content. Without further ado…here’s some box pr0n. Click on the images for a slightly larger version.

The discs themselves

FLCL box guide

The front cover of the Guide.

FLCL box back of the guide

The back cover of the guide, with Haruko’s guide to reading manga.

FLCL box t-shirt card

Front of the card you send in for a FLCL t-shirt.

FLCL box sticker sheet

FLCL sticker sheet. The plastic covering these and the postcards almost made me lose a few stickers as the adhesive got attached to the plastic. Patience and a curse word or two later and things were intact.

FLCL box postcards 1-3

Included Postcards

FLCL box postcards 4-6

The rest of the Postcards. Not really crazy about the postcard’s sayings. Each of the sayings, though, correspond to something in that episode as goofy and cliche as they might sound.

That said, I’m really happy with the construction of the box itself. It’s a pretty nice rigid cardboard with a secondary rigid cardboard inside that makes it even tougher. It’s good to see after so many flimsy, papery boxes end up on the shelves.

More on the innards in Part 2.

wow … it looks banging … how much did it cost for the entire set?

  2. 2 kimagure

It retails for around $70 US. You can get it cheaper from amazon.com, right stuf. Basically shop around. I got mine from bestbuy.com which arguably was not the best price, since they didn’t discount it at all. But it was where I had gift card money from Christmas, so it worked out ok.

I think it still a little expensive, but if you compare it to the original releases which were still three discs and retailed for $30 a piece you save a little. There is a good amount of extras too. Personally, if I were spending my own money, I’d shop around. That’s really a no brainer.

I’m tempted to buy already … waiting to see the 2nd part of your review … cause I really enjoyed watching FLCL

  4. 4 Os

Ooooh, what’s that black disc? Naturally, I already bought all three for $30 each… but I’ll still probably get this anywho.

  5. 5 Crayotic Rockwell

The sayings on the postcards are lines from rock songs are they not? Well that’s what I’m assuming of the others after “hungry like the wolf” clicked with me.

May not make you any more crazy about them, but y’know…
